Emma has three lovely children but after the birth of each she suffered Postnatal depression. She experienced feelings of utter desperation, fatigue, lethargy and an inability to cope.
Many of Emma’s friends had suffered in the same way but felt too guilty to tell anyone. Talking to social workers, community health workers and friends it became apparent that there was a lack of local support services for women experiencing this debilitating illness.
So in 2004 the ACACIA vision was born by Emma and a group of friends, to provide space and care for mums and dads experiencing pre or post natal depression. Their aim is to improve the lives of mothers and families affected by pre- and post- natal depression (PND).
Acacia do this in a number of ways including:
Weekly level one befriending; Sign-posting service and information; resource library; Baby massage sessions; Free crèche for service users and Mothers’ pamper service.
In partnership with the Elim Life Church we meet every Monday morning (Term Time) Acacia run sessions at the Kingstanding Community Halls and Life Cafe. For more information, contact Phone:
