At Elim Life Church we love Christmas! We simply love the season that celebrates Jesus, the Son of God, being born as a human baby – Immanuel, God with us!
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas….actually it’s looked a lot like Christmas and as I think about all God has done I can’t help but be thankful for this amazing season. 2014 was no exception as we stepped up a gear to bless this community…here’s a glimpse of what we did!
Santa’s Sleigh – this year we descended again on the Wyrley Birch and Kingstanding to bless their socks off with Santa, his sleigh, carol singing, a box of chocolates and card for every home. Using the Lakeside Centre as our briefing centre we brought festive cheer across the estate and had some brilliant God moments and conversations! Santa and his sleigh also showed up outside Tesco on Hawthorn Road –another great opportunity to engage with the local community and show God’s love. It’s made me think – What if the generosity we show here could be replicated through us as individuals regularly? How could you bless your neighbour or work Colleague in the year ahead?
Spectacular – literally hundreds of people came through the doors and received a warm welcome, great refreshments, Christmassy craft, brilliant face-painting, angelic carol singing and a special visit to Santa in his superb grotto, complete with free gift! Connecting with our community is what we love to do. As you think about 2015 that is to come – Who you could invite along to special events?
Services – a good number of visitors joined us for one or more of the special Christmas Services – from an all age spontaneous(ish) nativity to a more reflective 11pm Christmas Eve, from carols for all the family to advent evening specials – there was something for everybody! We re:lived Christmas – but the truth is we can re:live the truth of God’s love for us everyday. He still is Emmanuel, He still wants friendship with us and not just at Christmas.
FoodBank Christmas Meal – it was our pleasure and privilege to provide a full Christmas Meal, entertainment and gifts for the whole family to our FoodBank clients. Many were appreciative and ‘blown away’ by the generosity they received; our thanks to the Hawthorn Traders and local Councillors for their help and support with this event. We are so thankful for the ability to help those who find themselves in a difficult time, yet all around us there are people in need. Why not look out for them? Why not find ways to help?
We really do love Christmas, but the spirit of Christmas, of love and generosity is too great to confine to one season!
